Firefighters were working Saturday afternoon to extinguish a two-alarm fire at an apartment complex.
The fire started about 11 a.m. at the three-story complex, at 1028 S. West Temple. When crews arrived, they saw “heavy fire” coming out of the second floor, which then spread to the third floor and the attic, said Salt Lake City Fire spokesman Jasen Asay.
“Crews had to work fast to do the best that they could to keep the fire from spreading,” Asay said. “When a fire gets into an attic, like this situation, it spreads quickly. So our crews worked up on the roof trying to cut holes to vent the building, and also locate the fire so they could stop it from spreading.”
No injuries were reported, Asay said. Investigators are still trying to determine what sparked the fire.
At least two families have been displaced because of the fire, according to the Utah Red Cross.
