WASHINGTON (WJLA) – The roof deck of a residence hall at George Washington University caught fire early Tuesday morning.
According to D.C. Fire and Rescue officials, firefighters were dispatched to the university’s Fulbright Hall, located at 2223 H St. NW, just after 3 a.m.
Upon arriving on scene, firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire which appears to have been contained to the roof deck fire of the eight-story hi-rise building.
A statement from GWU confirms the fire was under control by 3:30 a.m.
All students were quickly evacuated to a nearby building during the fire and all were accounted for. There were no injuries reported.
About 225 students live in Fulbright Hall. All students were allowed to re-enter the dorm once the fire was extinguished.
Fire officials say the fire may have started near construction material on the roof of the building, but an official cause has yet to be determined.
GWU officials are assessing the floors of the building for signs of water damage.
Due to the fire activity, 23rd St. NW from G to I St. NW were closed to traffic.
