Firefighters rescue 79-year-old man from house fire in Round Lake Beach

Firefighters from the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District rescued a 79-year-old man from a house fire in the 1400 block of Ardmore Drive in Round Lake Beach Tuesday afternoon, Batallion Chief Bill Rohrs said.

Firefighters were on the scene at 2:54 p.m., Beattie said, and the blaze was extinguished in about 10 minutes.

Rohrs said the 79-year-old man was in the house alone and “he was a person who needed help getting out of the house.”

“He used a walker,” Rohrs said.

The man was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, and he “left in better condition than he was found in,” Rohrs said.

Flame damage was contained to the front of the house, Rohrs said, and smoke damage affected the rest of the house.

Total damage is estimated between $40,000 and $50,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
