Propane Truck Crashes and Burns in Philadelphia Suburb

BEDMINSTER, Pa. (AP) – Authorities are allowing residents in a suburban Philadelphia community to return home following an evacuation as firefighters worked to contain a propane truck fire.

Officials say the 2,000-gallon tanker truck crashed and caught fire around 8:30 a.m. Monday on Route 611 in Tinicum Township.

Firefighters started evacuating buildings in the mostly rural area of Bucks County as the flames spread after the accident.

Bucks County Emergency Management Coordinator John Dougherty said authorities feared that the fuel could overheat and explode.

The evacuation order was lifted after several hours, but the road remained closed for the accident investigation.

Two people were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem. Their conditions haven’t been released, but officials said the victims weren’t burned.
