LARKSVILLE, Pennsylvania — Citizens’ Voice reports that Larksville voters will decide if they want to pay higher taxes to keep the borough’s full-time paid firefighters.
The borough council unanimously approved a referendum on the November ballot, asking residents to vote yes or no on a property tax increase.
The council did not specify the amount of the proposed tax increase. That will be decided before the end of this month, council solicitor Lawrence Moran told Citizens’ Voice.
Larksville has around-the-clock coverage from three full-time firefighters and 11 part-time firefighters, as well as volunteer firefighters.
Officials said the borough cannot afford to meet the union’s demands, especially during economic challenges caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
