One Dead in Philadelphia Boarding House Fire

PHILADELPHIA (MyFoxPhilly) – One person is dead following a boarding home fire in North Philadelphia.

Fire officials say the blaze began at the Alliance of Youth Mission Ministries building home at 2:53am Friday.

Heavy smoke appeared at the three-story building when firefighters arrived at the scene. One person was found alone dead inside an apartment where the initial fire started.

The fire was reported under control within 16 minutes.

It is unclear if the alarm was working or if it had been turned off. A fire marshal is currently conducting an investigation.

More than 20 people were displaced and taken to a nearby shelter. There were no other injuries.

Officers say there were 25 fatalities reported from fire in the city last year during this time. This year that total is 21.
