Ohio Firefighters Rescue Mom, Son from House Fire

MOGADORE, Ohio (WSBT) – A YouTube video captured the heroic efforts of two Ohio firemen who save two people from a house fire.

STATter911: Story Behind Ohio Rescue on Tape

WSBT reports that the Friday afternoon fire originally came in as a report of a bedroom on fire. The two-man crew of Magadore firefighter/paramedic Ben Stasik and firefighter Nick Sansom arrived to find fire showing from the house and a man standing outside saying his wife and son were trapped inside.

The two firefighters decided to make an initial knockdown of the fire that would allow Stasik to make entry and begin a search. WSBT says that Stasik then heard a scream from inside and made the decision to go in without a hoseline.

Once inside and with no visibility, Stasik located the wife. A YouTube video from a police department dash camera shows Stasik dragging the victim outside.

With one victim found and rescued Stasik and Sansom took the hoseline and began to darken down the flames so Stasick could go back inside and search for the son. On his second attempt he found the son in the basement and assisted him outside as seen in the video.

As both victims were sent to the hospital, Stasik and Sansom continued fighting the fire with assistance from crews from other nearby departments.

Both Stasik and Sansom have a total of over 30 years of experience but neither reported having been to a fire with occupants trapped inside.

WSBT states that Chief Adams thinks his men acted like true heroes.
