PINEVILLE, N.C. — One firefighter has died and one is hospitalized following a fire in a commercial structure fire in Pineville, on Saturday, according to local news stations and authorities.
Pineville firefighters were dispatched to the Countryside Shopping Center shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday. Firefighters from the Charlotte Fire Department and Mecklenburg County Fire Department also responded to the incident.
According to Charlotte Fire Chief Jon Hannan, a mayday was transmitted during the fire. Two firefighters were removed from the structure and transported to the hospital.
The firefighter who died was a member of the Pineville Volunteer Fire Department. His identity and that of the injured firefighter have not been made available at this time.
The injured firefighter reportedly has non-life-threatening injuries and is being treated at Charlotte Medical Center.
An investigation into the cause of the fire and the circumstances involving the mayday is underway.
