Emmitsburg, MD — Ever wonder how to make a good day of playing 18 holes great? A new video from the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) shows that participating in a National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Golf Tournament can make a day on the links an extraordinary day for you, your friends, and the survivors of the fallen.
The video features interviews with the National Golf Tournament Coordinator, Chief Charlie Dickinson, retired Deputy Administrator of United States Fire Administration, and other coordinators of NFFF regional golf tournaments as well as information about establishing a local tournament. The first National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Golf Tournament was held in 2004 to raise awareness and support the programs of the Foundation. Now in its tenth year, the program has grown to include over 30 regional golf tournaments across the country and has raised almost $2,000,000 to help the NFFF provide services, scholarships and assistance to the survivors of fallen firefighters.
“It’s not a serious day of golf. It’s certainly not the PGA approach to golf,” says Dickinson. “But we’ve found we’ve been able to financially help the Foundation, which is self-funded.”
Each tournament is run by individual coordinators and a team of volunteers. The NFFF provides a template to the coordinators for establishing a tournament in their community and offers general support and guidance.
