YORKVILLE, New York – On January 6, 2016 at 9:28 a.m. the Yorkville Fire Department, along with Whitesboro and New York Mills fire departments, was dispatched to a reported structure fire with entrapment at 2201-2203 Whitesboro Street the Village of Yorkville.
Upon Engine 7’s arrival First Assistant Chief Nick Morosco reported a 2 ½-story Type 5 structure with heavy fire on the second floor showing from the 1, 2, and 4 sides. Assistant Chief Morosco assumed Incident Command.
The balance of the second alarm was transmitted which brought New York Mills Fire to the scene with one engine company; New Hartford Fire was dispatched to send a FAST company to the scene; and Maynard Fire was dispatched to standby at Yorkville’s Station.
Engine 7 stretched a blitz line and started to make a knockdown of the fire. Truck 1 with Chief Joseph Morosco arrived and laddered the building. Whitesboro Engine 3, with Assistant Chief Montana, arrived a shortly after. Command assigned their crew to stretch an attack line to the 3-side and attempt to make a search of the second floor. Their crew made it to the second floor where they were met with heavy fire conditions. The Incident Commander then ordered the evacuation of all interior crews and the attack went to a defensive operation.
A third-alarm was transmitted which brought Maynard Fire to the Scene with an engine company; New Hartford Fire to the scene with an engine company; Willowvale Fire to the scene with an engine company; and Deerfield Fire to standby at the Yorkville Station. Also a special call was made for Utica Fire Department’s Tower 2 and Engine 1 to respond to the scene.
Blitz fire lines, hand lines, and master streams were placed into operation. Once the fire was darkened down crews then made a primary search of the structure which was negative. The later secondary search also was negative and crews then began the overhaul process.
There were no reported injuries to the firefighters or occupants of the dwelling.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Yorkville Fire Department; Yorkville Police Department; New York State Police; Utica Fire Department; and the Oneida County Cause and Origin Team.
The Yorkville Fire Department would like to thank all of the mutual aid companies who assisted in this Incident. The mutual aid companies who operated at the incident or were standing by at stations are; Whitesboro Fire Department, New York Mills Fire Department, New Hartford Fire Department, Utica Fire Department, Maynard Fire Department, Deerfield Fire Department, Willowvale Fire Company, Oriskany Fire Department, Oneida County Car 271, and Clinton Fire Department.. Great team work by all companies involved.
