RIGA, New York — A western New York ambulance crew was involved in a crash that claimed the life of one of their members while on the way to an emergency.
The Rochester Democrat and Time Warner Cable news report that a Bergen Volunteer Fire Department ambulance was involved in a crash that killed one member at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
A spokesman for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said the ambulance was en route to an emergency call when it collided with another vehicle on Bovee Road. Three people were inside the ambulance at the time of the accident. The crew member who died was riding as the passenger.
He was taken to United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia where he was pronounced dead.
The driver and a crew member in the rear were reportedly not injured.
