DETROIT (WDIV) – A fire Friday morning on Detroit’s northeast side has claimed the life of a mother and her 16-year-old son.

The 49-year-old woman and her son were killed when flames overtook the home in the 20000 block of Spencer Street just after 4 a.m.

The son was rushed to a hospital, but later died.

Arson investigators are on the scene and police said are questioning another family member — who was standing in the home’s driveway with no shirt or shoes on.
