Lyons, SD (6-29-15):The Montreal FD has recently awarded a contract for 20 aerial apparatus to the Rosenbauer America dealer, Aréo-Fire. This contract will be for a period of five years, at four aerials per year being delivered. The city based their choice on the results of an evaluation process where price, presentation, delivery capacity and service-after-sale were all considered at different levels.
The apparatus will have the same general features, including a 100’ aerial with water tower, no pumps, and mounted on a Rosenbauer Commander 4000 chassis. The fire department has used a variety of aerial apparatus for the last 10 years, including four Rosenbauer T-Rex articulating platforms.
The Montreal FD has 2,500 career firefighters amongst 67 fire stations. They protect a population close to two million, spread out across a 500 square kilometer area. With their 125,000 calls per year, they offer speciality as a first responder, high rise rescue, confined space rescue, hazmat rescue, water rescue, ice rescue, training, prevention, and material resource division.
The fire department of Montreal was founded in 1863, and it’s the seventh largest fire department in North America. In 2002 all of the 22 other fire departments on the island of Montreal were combined into one big fire department. They had their first extended aerial transported on a wheel wagon in 1892. This aerial was invented by Rodrigue Colleret, one of their firefighters.
Montreal FD is considered one of the most progressive fire departments regarding health and safety for their firefighters. They base their managements on their values of respect, integrity, ethics, courage, health and safety.
