Man Dies in Miss. Apartment Fire

IUKA, Miss.– An apartment fire in Iuka has claimed the life of a 58-year-old man.

Tishomingo County Coroner Mack Wilemon tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (http://bit.ly/zpyIc6 ) Franklin O’Neal died of apparent smoke inhalation after being brought out of his burning apartment Tuesday night.

Wilemon said neighbors reported the fire in the three-unit building, and when firefighters arrived O’Neal was still inside. They were able to bring him out, but Wilemon determined on examination that he had succumbed to the smoke.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
