Man Dies in Kenmore Apartment Fire

KENMORE (WIVB) – In Kenmore, flames took a tragic and deadly toll overnight.

The flames broke out in the one of the first floor units of the Ken Dev Studio Apartments on Delaware Avenue in Kenmore, right around midnight.

Firefighters were able to contain the flames to that apartment, but the man who lived there didn’t make it out alive.

Neighbors say many people didn’t even leave the building when the alarms went off.

Tammy Fisher, who lives in the building, said, “We’ve had false alarms, several of them in the recent past. This one was real, and I’m glad I got out because I was contemplating whether to just stay in bed or not.”

Kenmore Fire Chief Brendan Kiefer said, “It’s just the nature of these big buildings. There could be a large fire on one corner of the building and it could appear small to someone on the opposite end of the building.”

Neighbors also say it was tough for everyone to get out, because so many disabled and elderly residents live in the building.
