Every Wednesday of every week we spend an hour talking with various fire service personalites and leaders on topics and information the influence and impact the way you and your department operate.  We also take your questions and comments into the discussions on our social media pages with #FETalk.  Here are those conversations from the first three months of the year.

They”ll discuss the ever-evolving world of small-scale props, curriculum changes in the realm of fire dynamics, and innovative ways to make the Class A fixed-facility scenario a bit more realistic, while still operating within the confines of applicable NFPA standards.

Bill Gustin, Mike Dugan and their panelists are joined by Chief Richard Riley of the Clearwater (FL) Fire Department, as they continue their high rise fire operations discussion. They will focus on the hose selections and deployment for standpipe operations.

Live from Amarillo, TX!   Rick Lasky will be traveling to the Amarillo Fire Department to join up with their Union President, Training Officer, and a few other members.    Discussion will be centered around leadership and building relationships with your neighbors. Guests include Dana Havlik, James Amerson, Dennis Eaves, and Jason Mays.

Join Ray McCormack, Gabriel Angemi, Josh Materi and Erich Roden as they discuss Urban Firefighting and Challenges.

Rick Lasky and Terry McGrath will be joined by Lewisville (TX) Firefighter Andy Allison who was electrocuted fighting a residential fire. Andy medically retired due to his injuries and talks about his progress, struggles and life.

“Occupational Safety and Risk Assessments”
This week we are going to discuss the role of safety committees beyond the fireground. What are the roles, responsibilities and potential players that must be involved to have a comprehensive program? We will discuss having a successful program in place that addresses the big picture, protecting the membership and the municipality.

Cancer is a hot topic, as it should be today, in the fire service. However, many feel washing your gear is the answer.  Washing our gear is at the top of everyone’s mind, but it is not the only piece to the puzzle. We will cover exactly what firefighters should be doing to limit their exposure to absorbed toxins on and off the fireground.

Frank and P.J. will be “hanging out” and talking with ISFSI President, Chief Steve Pegram with the Goshen Township Fire Department.  Chief Pegram is a FDIC 2016 keynote speaker.  They will discuss his upcoming keynote and how to communicate an unpopular topic like safety within your department.

Hangout Live at TenCate Protective Fabrics
Live from TenCate Protective Fabrics headquarters in Georgia, join Fire Engineering’s Chief Editor, Bobby Halton as he visits with TenCate’s Mike Stanhope and Bart McCool.   They will explain why specifying certain fabrics is very important when choosing gear, the benefits from protection, to comfort, to durability, to cleaning. TenCate will also share some upcoming innovations to look out for in the coming year.



Focus on Science, Research and Tactics

The FSRI team (Steve Kerber, Dan Madrzykowski, and Robin Zevotek) will discuss the UL Fire Attack Experiments that took place throughout March.  Joining in on the discussion will be Chief Bobby Halton of Fire Engineering.

Hartford (CT) Firefighter, Occupant Injured in Multifamily House Fire

A fire at a multifamily home on Sharon Street sent two people to the hospital and displaced 13 residents early Tuesday, according to a Hartford official.
