Houston Firefighter Collapses and Dies after Apartment Fire

HOUSTON (Houton Chronicle) – A 49-year-old firefighter died after battling a small blaze at an apartment complex in southwest Houston Wednesday morning, officials said.

Sr. Capt. Thomas W. Dillion collapsed after the small blaze was extinguished and was rushed to West Houston Medical Center Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Houston Fire Department.

Fire officials said the small fire was not directly related to his death.

According officials, the small fire broke out about 8:30 a.m. at a unit in the complex in the 7520 block of Cook near Corona. It was put out quickly. When Dillion, a 22-year veteran with HFD, collapsed, firefighters performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on him.

Dillion joined the department in June 1989. He was promoted to Captain in 1998 and to Senior Captain in 2002. Officials with the Houston Professional Fire Fighters Association said Dillion is survived by three children. He was worked at station 69, according to fire officials.
