Houston Fire Department Orders 6 New Ferrara Igniter Pumpers

Holden, LA — The City of Houston has awarded another large contract to Ferrara Fire Apparatus, America’s premier custom fire apparatus manufacturer.  Houston Fire Department, who currently operates nearly 70 Ferrara fire and rescue apparatus, has ordered 6 more custom rescue pumpers on Ferrara Igniter chassis.

“We are thrilled, obviously, to receive another large contract from Houston,” remarked company President/CEO Chris Ferrara. “While the base of our business will always be suburban and rural fire departments, much of the image and perception of our company is based upon our ability to maintain long term relationships with major metropolitan fire departments. Houston Fire Department has been a high profile Ferrara customer for over seven years.”

Although the cab and body design is practically a standard for Houston, the trucks represent Ferrara’s custom manufacturing — with a healthy dose of their famous Heavy Duty construction.  Both the cab and body have extruded aluminum framework and all 3/16” thick aluminum plate inner and outer panels.  A glance at these engines and you get a visual concept of the types of responses for which they are equipped.  They can certainly handle fire suppression with Hale QMAX 2000 GPM midship pumps. But these are equally as well equipped to handle rescue calls. Dedicated backboard storage, oxygen bottles in the rear cab extension, along with large and deep compartments are designed to carry all the necessary tools of the trade.

Firefighter safety is evident all around the apparatus. In addition to the 3/16” thick cab and body, the trucks also have air bag protection, on-site tilt table testing, hand wheel valve actuators, MIV valves in both steamer inlets, electronic pressure governor, LED scene and under vehicle lighting and more.

Ferrara Fire Apparatus custom manufactures a complete line of fire, emergency and rescue vehicles.  Their custom chassis selection includes the Ultra, Inferno, Igniter, Ember and Intruder 2. The Ultra is unique, available with either a 3/16” thick aluminum or 3CR12 stainless steel cab. Their line of apparatus includes custom and commercial pumpers and tankers, rear and mid-mount aerial ladders and platforms, walk in and walk around rescues, incident command trucks and trailers and the Inundator high flow industrial apparatus.  A leading innovator in the industry, Ferrara takes pride in offering such firefighter safety items such as the MVP Heavy Rescue Pumper and Aerial Quint, On-Site Tilt Table Testing, Cab and Body ECE-29 Crash Testing, Independent Front Suspension, Complete Airbag Protection, and SmartWheel steering systems.
