Historic Promotions for the Boston Fire Department

Two significant firsts in the department’s history

BOSTON, Massachusetts – The Boston Fire Department celebrated two historic firsts during a promotion ceremony.

WCVB reported that Deanna McDevitt, a fourth-generation firefighter was promoted to the rank of District Chief, becoming the first female in the department to hold that rank.

McDevitt joined the fire department in 2008. A mother, Yale graduate, and hockey player, WCVB says that she currently outranks her husband.

The second historic promotion is that of Andre Stallworth to become the first African American member of the department to serve as chief of the department of support services.
