Flashover Forces Bailout at Virginia Fire

MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA9) – A fire swept through four townhomes in Manassas early Wednesday morning, forcing 15 people from their homes.

The fire was first reported around 3:27 a.m. in the 9000 block of Maury Lane in the Georgetown South neighborhood, according to Fire Marshal Frank Teevan.

Once on scene, firefighters found flames shooting through the roof.

He pounded on doors in the middle of the night and saved his neighbors. They watched as the smoke and flames poured out of the windows of their homes in Manassas but at least they made it out alive.

Two firefighters escaped serious injury as they searched for trapped residents on the second floor, officials said. Both had to escape out a window. Officials said both made it out safe and uninjured.

Three of the four townhomes were severely damaged and at least three families have been displaced.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire Marshals are on scene conducting the investigation, which is expected to last for several hours.
