A goal of this webcast is to instill in students’ minds: “As the incident commander or officer on the fireground, the burden of the everyone-goes-home philosophy rests with you, and you cannot take this responsibility lightly or ever fail to hold up your end of the mission.” To this end, this webcast addresses the fireground experience from arrival through termination. Safety and the rules of engagement along with the most critical size-up factors, command structure, and strategy selection and modification are discussed. Ongoing fireground operations such as decentralizing the fireground, progress reports, and a comprehensive look at post-control activities are also covered. This program focuses on identifying areas where weakness in command and organizational structure can cause a breakdown in operations and safety and operational discipline along with prefireground preparation in the way of setting expectations for subordinates. The incident command system is brought down to the street level, and activities counter to the safe execution of the incident action plan are identified.
