Former Sacramento Fire Chief Gary Loesch, fired from his job last week, promised a lawsuit against the city for wrongful termination. It wasn’t just talk.
Tuesday Loesch filed a claim of wrongful termination against the city, starting the process for a $10 million lawsuit against the city. The claim says his termination was retaliation by the city manager because the chief prevailed in a disciplinary matter that dated back to 2020.
In that matter Loesch said the city punished him for dressing as a pimp in a Halloween costume and a department employee accused the department of harassing behavior. Loesch appealed the punishment and it was reduced.
Further, Loesch claims the city manager had COVID-19 while on the job last week and met with him to terminate him while he was still infected. The manager’s actions, the chief charges, were a deliberate attempt to infect him with the disease.
The city has so far declined to comment on the lawsuit, but said the city manager did not have COVID-19 when he met with the chief.
