Is Mandatory Overtime a Thing of the Past in Tallahassee (FL) Fire Department? Could Be!

The Tallahassee Fire Department is hoping new hiring and better pay will mean the city will soon not need firefighters to work mandatory overtime.

The optimism comes in the wake of a new contract agreement reached with the city in October that raised salaries by between five and 10 percent.

The higher salaries have already prompted an uptick in applications, according to TFD Deputy Chief of Operations Mike Hadden, including applications from veteran firefighters.

The department hopes the new influx of firefighters will mean mandatory overtime will no longer be needed.
