PIERRE, S.D.– The Red Cross is helping tenants after fire damaged a Pierre house that had been converted into a three-unit apartment building.
KCCR radio reports that the Wednesday night fire did an estimated $10,000 in damage to the building and displaced the two women and one man who live in one of the apartment units. The other two units aren’t occupied.
About 30 firefighters responded to the blaze that began when blankets and other items were ignited by a baseboard heater in a bedroom. Deputy Fire Chief Ian Paul says one firefighter was treated at the scene for a cut to his chin.
