Fire Destroys Wisconsin Apartment

Village of Pewaukee – A fire destroyed a lower-unit apartment at 365 Park Hill Drive on Friday, Jan. 16, and forced the evacuation of 12 people from the building.

According to Pewaukee fire chief Kevin Bierce, the lower-unit apartment, where the fire originated, was “totally destroyed.”

“There was a pretty heavy fire involved in the one unit,” Bierce said. “There was smoke throughout.”

Bierce noted that tenants were relocated by bus to the village hall and turned over to the Red Cross.

The resident whose home was destroyed was not home at the time the fire began. A smoke detector went off, which alerted fire crews and police units through 911. Fire damage in the one unit is estimated at more than $35,000.

Fire crews from Pewaukee, city of Waukesha, town of Delafield and village of Sussex responded to the fire. Police units were dispatched at 2:36 p.m. and cleared the scene at about 6 p.m., according to Capt. Jay Iding of the village of Pewaukee Police Department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
