FDNY Second-in-Command Will Take Home More Money than Commissioner and Mayor Combined

Joseph Pfeifer, the FDNY’s incoming second-in-command under Commissioner Laura Kavanagh, will take home more money than the commissioner and mayor combined.

The highly-respected Pfeifer is expected to help stabilize the department leadership, which has been rocked by acrimony and a number of high-level resignations and demotions in recent weeks.

The New York Post reports Pfeifer’s salary will be $242,727. And as a retired FDNY assistant chief, Pfeifer will also collect his $278,314 annual pension. Combined, he will take home $521,041 a year.

Mayor Adams is paid $258,750 a year; Kavanagh’s salary is $243,171, the Post reports.
