Ten years after the attack on America, the New York City Fire Department will release FDNY 2001-2011: A Decade of Remembrance and Resilience, a photo-driven book chronicling September 11, 2001 and the Department’s efforts to rebuild in the months and years that followed. Featuring an introduction by former President George W. Bush, the book was released this month.
Through dozens of unique and intimate photos culled from the department’s archives and interviews with FDNY members, the book captures the strength and sacrifice of firefighters and first responders called to duty that day and throughout the aftermath.
This pictorial-style book chronicles the resilience and determination that allowed the Department and our nation to rebuild, with a renewed spirit, forever changed.
Published by M.T. Publishing Company, Inc., the large format 12″ x 10″ book contains 112 pages and also chronicles major department operations including the response to Hurricane Katrina and Haiti, the Miracle on the Hudson, the 2009 Manhattan crane collapse and the American Airlines crash in Queens just two months after September 11, 2001. It is officially licensed by the City of New York and the FDNY.
The hardbound book is available through the FDNY Foundation at www.fdnybook.com or through various bookstores. Proceeds from the book benefit the FDNY Foundation.
