As the first line goes, so goes the fire! This is true on every fire. And, in the firehouse, as the company officer goes, so goes the crew. We can look at any company or house and tell a great deal about the attitude and competency of its company officer. This class will outline 10 basic competencies for the company officer to get the most out of the crew and from himself. It is critical that the company officer create an environment in the firehouse that enables and mandates professionalism, effectiveness, and teamwork. These basic techniques will help the officer to get his students to perform as close to their capabilities as possible. It is like being effective on the fireground: We must master the basics of leadership, motivation, and empathy to create that positive environment that allows our members to flourish and grow.
