HOUSTON (Houston Chronicle) – An elderly woman died after a fire broke out her home in southeast Houston late Monday night.
The blaze erupted about 11:30 p.m. at the house in the 6100 block of Sherwood near Tolnay, according to the Houston Police Department.
Police said firefighters found the woman, whose name has not been released, in the bathtub while they battled the fire. She was rushed to Memorial Hermann hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Officials said she was believed to be in her 70s.
The firefighters had trouble moving around inside the home, which was packed with furniture, videos tapes and clothes.
Investigators are trying to determine what sparked the blaze.
