Columbus Man Pulled from Apartment Fire

A man was taken in life-threatening condition to the hospital after being pulled from a burning apartment on the East Side last night.

Columbus firefighters were called at 10:22 p.m. to 287 Mayfair Blvd., where they had to force their way in, battalion Chief Wesley Fullen said.

They found the man at the bottom of the stairs of the two-story apartment, he said.

Columbus paramedics took the man to the Wexner Medical Center at Ohio State University. Emergency-services radio broadcasts said he was in life-threatening condition and drifting in and out of consciousness.

The fire seemed to start in the kitchen, Wesley said. Investigators were called to the scene.
