FRM/FFN: Charleston Documentary Shows How Leadership and Vision Led to Change

“The bravery of these nine firefighters and Chief Carr’s leadership following this tragedy are an inspiration to all,” said Chief Ron Siarnicki, executive director of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. “We are incredibly proud ABC News 4 is sharing this documentary with the citizens of Charleston. As the video points out, the support of the community was one of the keys in the rebuilding the department.”

Produced by STATter911 Communications and Greg Guise Media for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, the half-hour video focuses on what some firefighters describe as a generation’s worth of changes in just six years, all geared to the safety of firefighters and the public.

As Cathy Hobbs, news director explained, “ABC News 4 prides itself as being part of the community. We know the heartache the Charleston area felt in the days and weeks following the tragedy. We realize the importance of letting the community know how the department has changed over the past six years. It became stronger and wiser under the leadership of the late Chief Carr. All of us here at ABC News 4 felt strongly that airing the documentary Charleston 9: The Ultimate Sacrifice was simply the right thing to do.”
