Buffalo Firefighters Rescue Mother, Child from Fire

BUFFALO (WIVB) – A raging fire on Buffalo’s east side sent a woman and her four-year-old child to the hospital overnight with what are described as serious injuries.  A male and another child were also taken from the scene in ambulances. All four victimes were inside a home on Timon Street when the fire started on the first floor of the home.

Shortly after the fire, another massive blaze erupted across the city on Forest Avenue.

Emergency crews received the call at 12:25 a.m.  When they arrived to the scene the house was already fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters entered the house from the rear and found the mother and the four-year-old child in a back bedroom.

The fire spread to neighboring houses on both sides, causing heavy damage to both structures. One of the houses flames spread to was occupied but the other was vacant. The original house has collapsed from the fire. Firefighters remained on the scene until 3 a.m. extinguishing hotspots.

Fire crews tell News 4 they will sift through the debris Friday morning. Fire investigators are still determining what caused the massive fire.

One neighbor, named Christina, witnessed firefighters battling the blaze.  She described the scene to News 4, “I was asleep and I saw the I looked out my window and the fire trucks were pulled up right here they started unwinding there hose. I crossed the street over here and looked and there were flames coming out of the bottom window of the house and then they started to go to the top, I stood here on the corner. They brought out some kids, they were hurt.  It’s a really sad situation.”
