Boston (MA) Fire Commissioner Jack Dempsey Retires; Will End 36-Year Career This Month

Boston Fire Commissioner John “Jack” Dempsey, in his current office since 2020, will retire at the end of June.

In all, he has served the department for 36 Years in multiple capacities before being promoted to chief of department by former Mayor Marty Walsh in 2020.

Current Mayor Michelle Wu is interviewing applicants to replace Dempsey, who is 65, WGBH reported.

Dempsey announced his retirement plans at the ceremony commemorating 50th anniversary of the deadly Vendome fire.
