The Massport Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) team received a new Oshkosh 4500 gallon Striker Firefighting vehicle in late December 2010 to support its ongoing commitment to airfield and aviation safety. On board this unit, amongst many of the leading technologies, was the EagleEyeâ„¢ Driver’s Enhanced Vision System (DEVS).
DEVS are designed to aid ARFF responders when low visibility/no visibility conditions exist by providing a GPS guided moving map to assist their time sensitive navigation in what can be very complicated circumstances. The system also provides access to critical documents such as aircraft schematics and details so ARFF personnel can gather the required information while en-route to the incident.
“We wanted to equip this new vehicle with the very best technology available to us” suggests Al Osgood Jr., Assistant ChiefMPA Fire-Rescue, “including the EagleEyeâ„¢ DEVS system. Weather conditions along the eastern seaboard of the United States can be tricky at the best of times, so we want to be prepared in the best way possible to deal with the adverse weather we get”.
Team Eagle Ltd., through it’s software division, Eagle Integrated Solutions, has been providing the EagleEyeâ„¢ DEVS and many other airfield related software applications to airports since 2000.
“We are very pleased that Massport ARFF chose to equip the new truck with the EagleEyeâ„¢ system” states Eagle’s Manager of Business Development USA, Alex Gertsen. “We have been working with the Massport’s Airport Operations team for multiple years in providing AIROpsTM, a software tool for electronic GPS/GIS based airfield inspections and are now looking forward to working with and learning from Massport ARFF professionals during the support and evolution of DEVS at Boston Logan. “
