ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) – Investigators say a blaze that killed a firefighter at an Asheville office building was set on purpose.
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives spokesman Earl Woodham said Thursday that investigators have determined the blaze was arson, but investigators kept any details about the case under wraps.
The fire on July 28 at the Medical Office Complex Building next to Mission Hospital killed Asheville Fire Department Captain Jeffrey Bowen, critically injured another firefighter and did more than $20 million in damage. More than 200 people in the five-story building got out safely.
Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact the ATF, Asheville Police Department or the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
