CONWAY, Ark. (FOX 16) – Soon, the firefighters in Conway will double as paramedics. Recently Conway’s fire chief, with the help of the city made a big push and commitment to more services to the people of Conway. Part of that is staffing paramedics so the department can do more while out on a call.

“There are a lot of times where we do show up and we are the first on scene,” explained one Conway fireman studying to be a paramedic.

The department’s goal is to have a certified paramedic every time a fire truck is called out. This should be a reality in the next three to five years. Each firefighter who is working to get certified has to take classes for about a year. MORE
