Acting New Bedford (MA) Fire Chief Fired, Accused of Lying About Back Injury

The City of New Bedford fired Deputy Fire Chief Paul Coderre Jr. after a video showed him doing some heavy lifting while on medical leave for back troubles.

The consultants called in to review the case said the apparent misuse of injury leave not only cost the taxpayers money but demoralized the department.

Coderre was fired by Mayor Jon Mitchell on Tuesday based on “dishonesty and untruthfulness in connection with alleged work-related injuries.”
