Raleigh (NC) Firefighters Rally to Boost Pay; $13.42/Hour Starting Pay Inadequate

 Raleigh firefighters, police and other municipal employees rallied Tuesday afternoon at City Hall to call for better pay.

Firefighters say the Raleigh Fire Department is struggling to attract and retain firefighters in part because of the pay scale that starts at $13.42.

The department currently has nearly 60 vacancies, and firefighters are urging the city to raise the starting salary to $17 per hour.
