Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company is proud to announce the local fire departments selected to receive funding through a $130,000 grant package designed to help make communities safer.
In all, 13 fire departments will be receiving a grant, ranging in size from $3,000 to nearly $21,000. From thermal imaging cameras and turnouts to rescue tools and self-contained breathing apparatus, the variety of equipment funded through these grants is as diverse as the fire departments selected for funding.
Twenty-four departments across the country were originally nominated for grants by Fireman’s Fund employees. A group of Atlanta-area employees and independent agents then chose the grant recipients during a day-long selection process. A member of the Alpharetta (Ga.) Fire Department served as a technical advisor.
“As a company, we believe it is important to raise awareness about the significant needs of local fire departments,” said Danielle Cagan, director of the fire department grant program at Fireman’s Fund. “These grants will help firefighters do their jobs safely and efficiently, making communities safer and help firefighters save lives.”
The grant package is part of a nationwide philanthropic program funded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. The initiative is designed to provide needed equipment, training and educational tools to local fire departments. Since 2004, Fireman’s Fund has issued grants to over 1,700 different departments totaling more than $28 million. Grants are awarded two ways: (1) company employees are able to nominate a fire department for a grant, and (2) independent agencies are able to direct grants based on the growth of their business with Fireman’s Fund.
