“As a Board member of the Fire Family Foundation, one of the most rewarding aspects of this position is the opportunity to provide scholarships to the children of firefighters nationwide.  Each year we provide $50,000 to help ease the burdens of attending college. These scholarships help recognize students for their achievements, including grades, leadership positions, sports, and community service,” said Marv Williams, Fire Family Foundation Board Member and retired Captain with the Los Angeles City Fire Department.

About the Fire Family Foundation: After September 11, 2001, when over 340 New York City firefighters were lost in the World Trade Center attack, Firefighters First Federal Credit Union was entrusted with charitable donations made by members of the fire service and the community. The incredible response resulted in the vision to establish a nonprofit Foundation focused on serving the firefighting community. In 2008, the Fire Family Foundation was established. The Fire Family Foundation’s mission is to provide support and financial assistance to firefighters and their families in times of need. The mission is fulfilled through four core programs, providing financial assistance grants to firefighters and their families, awarding college scholarships, providing disaster relief and granting funds to fire charities. Firefighters First Federal Credit Union supports the Fire Family Foundation’s overhead costs, so 100% of donations to the Foundation go directly to support its mission and programs.
