Approximately 95 percent of civilian fire deaths occur in the residential setting. Yet, many departments are plagued with a passive search culture resulting from poor standard operating guidelines, overcautious safety concerns, and poor training. This class makes a case that our goal should be to complete a primary search of all structures within the first 10 minutes. Topics include best practice search skills, executing the search, victim removal including drags, window lifts, and upper-floor removal.
