AKRON, Ohio — A Summit County jury on Tuesday found an Akron man guilty of killing nine people, including seven family members, by setting fire to two homes in 2016 and 2017.

Stanley Ford, 62, was found guilty of more than two-dozen charges of aggravated murder, aggravated arson and attempted aggravated murder, said Ken Masich, a bailiff for Judge Christine Croce.

He was found not guilty of three other charges of prohibitions concerning companion animals, arson and aggravated menacing, Masich said.

Ford faces the death penalty during the sentencing phase of his trial, according to WEWS-Channel 5. The sentencing phase begins Monday morning, Masich said.

The first deadly fire happened April 18, 2016 at a home on Fultz Street in Akron. Lindell Lewis, 66, and Gloria Hart, 65, died in the fire. A third person managed to escape the home.

Seven family members died in the second fatal fire May 15, 2017 at another home on Fultz Street in Akron. Dennis Huggins, 35; Angela Boggs, 38; Jered Boggs, 14; Daisia Huggins, 6; Kyle Huggins, 5; Alivia Huggins, 3; and Cameron Huggins, 1, all died of smoke inhalation, the Summit County Medical Examiner’s office previously confirmed.

Ford was found not guilty of an arson charge related to a January 2017 vehicle fire, as well as an aggravated menacing charge related to an apparent confrontation with a neighbor before that fire, Masich said. He was also found not guilty of a charge related to a family dog killed in the second deadly fire.
