Chief says Chevy fire engine is part of
MOUNT VERNON, Missouri — A prized piece of the Mount Vernon Fire Protection District recently turned half a century old.
KSPR reported on 1970 Chevy fire engine owned by the fire department.
“It’s still an excellent running truck,” Fie Chief Brad DeLay said.
With low mileage and much of its original equipment intact, the fire engine sits ready in a reserve status.
Firefighting brothers Donald and Ronald Wright told KSPR that they have been with the fire department since 1965 and were some of the first firefighters to use the fire engine.
Chief DeLay said that the fire engine has been part of the community for so long that by keeping on basic maintenance and care he hopes it lasts another 50 years.
