AUGUSTA, Georgia – WJBF reported that some Augusta city leaders say the decision to suspend fire department ambulance service will be costly.

Commissioners had suspended sending fire department ambulances on calls.

Under a contract with Gold Cross the city agreed to staff three ambulances.

Augusta pays Gold Cross a $600,000 a year subsidy.

“We’re going to have to pay someone some more money because with the loss of those three ambulances they have to be replaced,” Commissioner Dennis Williams told WJBF.
