Utica, NY Deputy Chief Injured in Collapse

Mayday after stairway collapse in house fire

UTICA, New York – WKTV reports that Utica Fire Deputy Chief Matt Ambrose was injured during a house fire Sunday on Smith Place in Utica.

Utica Fire Chief Scott Ingersoll told WKTV that firefighters were inside the home when the stairway collapsed causing Deputy Chief Ambrose to fall from the second floor into the basement.

A mayday was transmitted and firefighters were able to get to Ambrose and safely remove him from the house.

Fire Chief Ingersoll said Ambrose was able to move on his own power.

Ambrose was transported to St. Elizabeth’s hospital for evaluation and released a few hours later.
