ORANGE COUNTY, Florida – The Orlando Sentinel reports that a senior citizen held an Orange County firefighter at gunpoint after he entered her home during a welfare check Thursday morning.

Orange County Fire Rescue spokeswoman Carrie Proudfit told the Sentinel that firefighters had responded to a home off Observatory Drive because the senior’s daughter was concerned about not getting in touch with her for several days.

The daughter told firefighters her mother has a serious medical condition.

The home was locked, and firefighters made entry through a window while announcing themselves as they entered. As the entered shots were fired.

All but one firefighter was able to get out.  The woman held one firefighter at gunpoint briefly before releasing him.
