Alabama Firefighter Charged with Stealing Gun from Suicide Scene

Huntsville firefighter charged with theft and tampering

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama – WAAY 31 has reported that a Huntsville firefighter was released from jail after having been arrested for stealing a firearm from the scene of a suicide.

Huntsville Fire & Rescue firefighter Brandon Nickelson was booked into jail on May 25 for tampering with physical evidence and theft of property, after being called to a home for a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

When firefighters arrived, they determined the person had died. Deputes processed and secured the scene and contacted the victim’s family.

After the scene was processed the firearm was missing

Investigators had believed that Nickelson had taken the firearm and returned to the fire station.

The firearm was located at the fire station and Nickelson was charged.

A spokesperson for the city told WAAY that Nickelson was placed on administrative leave.

Huntsville Fire & Rescue has not commented on the incident.
