Man rushes past firefighter and pulls woman out window
MOBILE, Alabama – Firefighters in Mobile responded to a three-alarm apartment fire where a bystander rushed in an pulled a woman from the burning structure.
WPMI reports that firefighters responded to the fire at Serenity Apartments on Azalea Road Wednesday at approximately 3:15 p.m.
Callers had reported that there were people possibly trapped inside.
As firefighters began their initial operations a woman was trapped at the window of her first-floor apartment.
As a firefighter began gearing up to rescue her, Quinn Parrish jumped into action reaching in and pulling the woman out of the building.
Quinn told WPMI that he acted quickly because he had faced a similar fire rescue situation before.
“Because I’ve been in a situation like this before over in Seabreeze. It was a little girl, it was a little girl. A little girl had died inside her apartment, and we did all we could to try to get her up out of there. All the smoke and stuff had killed us, and just, so any time I see a fire like that and I’m able to help, I jump right on it.”
A spokesperson for the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department said the woman was in shock and “couldn’t cooperate.”
Firefighters brought the three-alarm fire under control in an hour and a half.
There were no firefighter injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
