WHITE LAKE, North Carolina – A White Lake firefighter fell to her death on Tuesday morning while working as a roofer, according to WWAY and the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office reports that Mildred Gray Williams, an employee of Young’s Construction, was working on replacing the roof of the Bladen County Water Rescue building when she fell approximately 15 feet to her death.
Bladen County EMS, along with the sheriff’s office and the White Lake Police Department, responded to the call.
Williams, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bladen County Medical Examiner.
Bladen County Sheriff Jim McVicker told WWAY that because the death is work related it will be reported to the North Carolina Department of Labor for an investigation to be done.
A procession passed under an American flag supported by two fire department ladder trucks as Williams was transported to the Cape fear Valley-Bladen County Hospital.
Nathan Dowless, Director of Bladen County Emergency Services told WWAY “This is a shock to the emergency services community. Gray was a firefighter and one of us.”
