Occupant and police officer injured in Northeast blaze

WASHINGTON (WJLA) — A man was transported to an area hospital, a DC Police officer was injured, and three cats died in a house fire Monday morning in Northeast Washington.
DC Fire and EMS say the unidentified man suffered critical injuries and the police officer suffered a minor injury. A second officer and a woman were treated at the scene of the fire.
Firefighters responded to the scene of an apartment fire in the 500 block of 59th Street, NE.
Officials say the fire was extinguished and a dog was rescued and resuscitated.
An investigation into the fire is underway.
